Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, has praised the police force’s efforts in combating narcotics both domestically and globally. Through the exchange of 653 pieces of vital information with police departments across 43 countries, the coordinated efforts have led to the arrest of 190 suspects and the confiscation of 15 tonnes and 291 kilograms of drugs. This announcement comes on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
Dubai Police, under the guidance of Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, have made significant strides in the battle against drug abuse. Last year, the police force achieved a remarkable 36.2 percent increase in arrests related to drug and psychotropic substance traffickers, showcasing their commitment to addressing this pervasive issue.
The fight against drugs goes beyond apprehending traffickers. Dubai Police also witnessed a notable 33.3 percent rise in the number of arrests of drug promoters in 2022, accompanied by a significant 20.3 percent increase in the success rate of detecting drug users. This comprehensive approach aims to dismantle the entire drug network and ensure a safer community.
Recognizing the importance of educating the youth about the dangers of drugs, Lieutenant General Al Marri emphasized the crucial role played by the Hemaya International Centre. Affiliated with the General Department of Anti-Narcotics, the center has been instrumental in raising awareness among students and empowering them to make informed choices.
The Hemaya International Centre conducted impactful awareness campaigns in 210 government and private schools, delivering enlightening lectures to 79,716 students. Furthermore, the center engaged students through sports and military activities, benefitting 9,262 and 10,444 students, respectively. Electronic awareness bulletins were published, reaching an audience of 201,428 students per issue, ensuring wide dissemination of valuable information.
The influence of the Hemaya International Centre extended beyond educational institutions. Over 50,000 individuals benefited from the center’s diverse community field events, while 37,418 people attended informative lectures and 10,947 participated in insightful workshops. The center’s publications reached an impressive audience of 9,416,881 individuals, contributing to a broader understanding of the risks associated with drug abuse.
